The paper by Vladimir A. Lefebvre, School of Social Sciences, University of California, Irvine and Yuri N. Efremov. Sternberg Astronomical Institute. Moscow State University, Moscow, titled above, takes the idea of Teilhard de Chardin and others, about the “living” -- even divine – universe, and puts a scientific patina on it, providing a new operative template for SETI in the process,

Thank you for the link. I think the observer and the observed are two sides of a process that create a third side, which is the coin itself. An intelligent universe on a macrosopic scale and a microscopic human intelligence share a common trait which is an ongoing quest of self discovery as to the nature of itself. Al Ibn Arabi attributed the expansion of the visible universe to this principle as a facet of an evolutionary process. We serve as a mirror, in turn we gain an idividualised point of reference. This is deeply embedded in Sufi philosophy as the principle of the mirror. They say God is closer to you than your jugular vein aka Know Thyself. Interesting article and perspective.
And Bruce...
We are enamored of the idea that maybe we're just molecules in the body of God -- actually Christ, according to Teilhard.
We'll present more about all this upcoming, including some of the Sufi philosophy you note.
I think another aspect of Ibn Al Arabi's thought process is interesting to consider as well. He makes a very convincing and verifiable presentation that we live, as he put it, in poverty. In other words every aspect of what he termed the locus of manifestation (us) is entrely dependant upon what is provided for us without qualification. He goes further into this exposition by demonstrating that in fact we are an impossibility made manifest, or in other words from a certain empirical point of view, we are a paranormal reality onto ourselves. Which if you take this in hand and compare it to not only the self destructive effective behavior our species demonstrates, but also the source of this behavior, how we view ourselves, which is a variant of being the center of the universe, rather than a particle. All the circular logic and rationalizations, self comforting fantasys we take for reality make us a very disfunctional race. From an ecological point of view that our observers from another world may have of us as only a portion rather than the whole of a planetary living system...from that point of view all the ongoing surveilance of our planet if it is occurring by UFO's only demonstrates why we have not been contacted directly. If I went up to a developmentally disabled individual and began a rant about how they needed to this or that...what would be the point? Your article hit the bullseye once again and brings up some very important perspectives and possibilities.
And Bruce, this whole topic should be explored in depth, here or elsewhere.
We, as noted, plan on adding more about this aspect of existence.
